FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Some more information about our treatments...

Who will perform the treatment?

Dr Sarah Vardy will perform all consultations, including medical history and examination of the skin. During the consultation she will discuss with you how you want to look and what can be achieved and how much it will cost. She will not charge for the consultation. She will then perform all the injections herself.

How does it work?

Botulinum A toxin works by blocking nerve transmission to temporarily reduce the contractions of the facial muscles that cause frown lines, and crow’s feet ( lines around the eyes).

The treatment is safe and has been used in conventional medicine for over 30 years.

How long will it last ?

The treatment takes 1-2 days to start working, and the full effect will be reached at 1-2 weeks. It lasts for 3-6 months, depending on your skin type and your metabolism.

Who can have the treatment?

The Doctor will ask you questions about your medical history during your consultation. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding you will be advised to postpone your treatment. Do inform the Doctor if you have any disorders that affect your nerves or muscles. Also the Doctor will ask about any medication that you are taking.

How often can Botox injections be administered?

You can receive the injections every 3-4 months. Longer lasting results can be achieved with repeated treatments, as this causes thinning of the muscles which allows the skin to repair itself. Many young people start having the injections in order to prevent the lines forming in the future.

Which areas can be treated with muscle relaxing injections?

Frown lines in between the eyes - lines across the forehead -crow’s feet lines around the sides of the eyes - bunny lines at the top of the nose

What are the side effects?

Rarely a small area of bruising may appear. This may last for 3-4 days but can be covered easily with make-up. Slight swelling or redness can occur at the injection sites but this only lasts for 1-2 hours.

What happens after?

You should not lie down flat for 4 hours, or perform any strenuous exercise that day. It is advisable also to avoid excessive alcohol for the following 12 hours. Dr Sarah Vardy encourages anyone with concerns after the treatment to ring her on 0208 741 7904.
